How to Create Your Own Oil Warmer from Recycled Materials
Oil warmers or burners don’t only add to the aesthetic of your home, they can also be used to give off non-toxic fragrance. Moreover, a lot of studies have shown that aromatherapy through the use of essential oils is healthy. It improves blood circulation, relaxes the muscles, and even reduces depression and anxiety.
You can create your own oil warmer using the materials you no longer use at home. This earth-friendly burner can enhance your creativity. It can also be a source of income for you.
What You Need:
- Terra cotta pot
- Used glass bowl (preferably Pyrex) or tin can
- A small candle
- Essential oil of your choice
- Drill and drill bit
What to Do:
1. Prepare the terra cotta pot.
If you don’t have a terra cotta pot, you can recycle a flower pot you no longer need. You can also search on potters within your area. To maximize your search, go online and find the pot you like. The Internet has thousands of new and recycled pots you can purchase. You can buy them at dirt-cheap prices or even ask them for free.
2. Punch holes into the pot.
Using the drill and the drill bit, create holes into the terra cotta pot. The size of the holes will depend on you, but ideally, make them bigger. This way, you can allow a lot of oxygen to get into the pot and sustain the flame of the candle.
This process can be tricky, as not everyone is used to drilling. Do it wrongly and you might break the pot. If you are uncomfortable or don’t like to take the risk, ask someone to do it for you.
3. Cut a circle.
Get the glass bowl or the tin can. Using these materials, create a circle you are going to place on top of the pot. This is where you are going to put your essential oil, ready for burning. Make sure that the diameter of the circle fits the opening of the terra cotta pot perfectly.
Note: Do not use anything plastic in your oil warmer. Plastic melts when exposed to prolonged or intense heat. Worse, it can emit toxic fumes into the environment, risking your health in the process.
4. Place the candle inside the terra cotta pot.
The size of the candle should just be enough to fit the space inside the pot. A lot of people use smaller ones since they look much neater and easier to light. They can also easily monitor the flame inside the pot.
5. Pour in the oil.
Once you have already lit the candle, place the round cover on top of the pot and pour your desired oil.
After all these processes are done, you can now enjoy your DIY oil burner.
How to Improve Your Oil Warmer
