Massage Therapy School Requirements

If you are thinking of becoming a massage therapist, you are probably wondering what the massage therapy school requirements are. Most massage therapists have some sort of formal training at an accredited school, after which they take an exam and obtain their license to work in this field. Although not every state requires that massage therapists are licensed, 38 states do, and even in the states where it is not required, it is still a good idea for the sake of client confidence. The massage therapy school requirements vary from one state to the next, as each state has different requirements for the training courses that massage therapists must take in order for the school to be accredited. Schools within each state can also have varying requirements based on their individual education approach. There are approximately 1,500 massage therapy training schools that provide formal training, so there is clearly quite a bit of room for variation. The curriculum is often focused on specific types of massage therapy, which there are approximately 80, including reflexology, Swedish massage, shiatsu, deep tissue massage, sport massage and more. There are differing state massage therapy school requirements, so before beginning a program you’ll want to make sure they are accredited and current on all license requirements. In addition to the state required curriculum, training schools may offer massage courses in one or more of the different types of massage therapies as well as courses in anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, business marketing and ethics. Many reputable training schools also offer job placement opportunities for graduates of their programs. So if you’re thinking about becoming a massage therapist, you should be able to find a training school or training courses near where you live. The job outlook is great, as there is a continuing rise in the interest in holistic and alternative healing and medicines, and there are many opportunities available, especially in larger metropolitan areas. Just make sure the school you are attending is accredited and that they will prepare you to get your license and begin practicing in this rewarding field as soon as you have completed their program.

Description

This teaching video is designed for those who desire to learn and cultivate their ability to offer loving and skilled touch. Ellen Watson, founder of the MovingVentures School and long time EsalenĀ® Massage practitioner, teaches the basics of Essential Touch, a style known for its long, integrating strokes and for eliciting the relaxation response, which supports the body/minds’ natural ability to self-heal. Through this practice, I support clients and students in deepening their capacity to experience pleasure. Essential Touch is about being breathed by the Big Breath, about union with ones’ self and ones’ Creator, about creating exquisite moments of unity where healing happens. During this 2 hour and 20 minute session, we will spend 80 minutes working on the back side of the body, and 60 minutes working on the front side of the body. You can practice along with me in the privacy of your home. I recommend that you practice often with people you love and who will give you accurate and valuable feedback. With proper instruction and practice, you can soon be giving a loving and skilled session in Essential Touch. Learning to give and receive Essential Touch will serve you and those close to you the rest of your life.
