Moreover, most organizations require such ongoing learning to produce year round. The field of massage therapy is no different. Continuing education is more than encouraging licensed massage therapists to enhance their knowledge of massage therapy, but also ensures that adhere to high standards of professional performance.
In the state of Georgia, every two years (even years), the licensed massage therapists must acquire twenty-four hours of massage therapy continuing education units to remain compliant with State of Georgia Board of Massage Therapy regulations. This is to ensure that the licensed massage therapists are always up to date and continue to offer its customers the best possible massage therapy.
October 31, 2010, all therapists licensed massage in the state of Georgia will have to renew their license with the State Council of massage. One requirement is to present a proof of participation in twenty four hours of continuing education courses. Course hours and requirements: Twelve of the twenty-four hours of therapy massage continuing education should be practical or based technique, while the other twelve hours may be online or lecture only. Many massage therapists license to use this time to choose courses that focus on massage techniques and / or modalities in which they want to specialize or just learn more about. Topics include sports massage, craniosacral therapy, geriatric massage techniques, spa or massage pregnancy. Credentials: Before starting any massage therapy continuing education courses, make sure the program that is included is fully recognized by the Georgia Board of Massage Therapy and the instructors are accredited. The program must have a code number assigned by the NCBTMB provider to issue credits.
Program documentation: In case of being audited, you must have proper documentation of massage therapy continuing education courses completed.
- This documentation must include proof of attendance and participation in a workshop, seminar, conference or other educational program. At the end of the program, you must have a certificate that includes a massage therapist license number and the number of approved provider (signed or verified by an official of the program), and a program or description of course that details the author, course title, date, course, description of content and programming.
- For massage therapy education courses continues to have nothing to do with practical techniques, such as lectures, multimedia courses, correspondence courses, or in a self-study, you also need a certificate ending with the information outlined above. In the case of self-study, you will need verification by a sponsor and course information details on the nature of the course.
New licenses: If you are a massage therapist who is authorized within the first year of the biennial renewal period, which is responsible for the acquisition of massage therapy only twelve hours of continuing education, six of which must be supervised practical training.
