I'm looking at the different programs certified equine sports massage. Does anyone Hence certified? What advice would you give someone looking at the various schools and need help making a decision on the election one? What is your favorite part about the massages and what is your least favorite?
I recently looked into equine massage, too. I came to him after reading a wonderful book, "The Walrus on My Table: Touching True Stories of Animal Healing" by Anthony Guglielmo. Anthony speaks about how she came to work with animals and why he chose the school did (Patricia Whalen-Shaw Touch Integrative treatment of animals in Circleville, Ohio). After do some research online, I saw many schools and they are all very expensive. I decided to call some local barns to see whether even have a market for my job if I were to go for some certification. I learned that in most states Equine massage is illegal unless at least one technician veterinary certificate. He even spoke with the barn in New Jersey, where no licensing requirements. However, the owners told me that even though I am a therapist licensed massage, and although I have my Equine Certification, still not hire me unless it also became a CVT, had experience with large animals, and was affiliated with one of their vets! I decided to get my certification hold until there was a "sign" of some guy who'd work for me. I live in Manhattan and there is not much of a market right here. If something happens to me happened as described by Anthony in his book — ie, a client keeps asking me massage your horse – then I'll take that as a signal. In the meantime, if I had to go to study Equine Massage, I personally decided it would be in the Equissage School in Virginia, because I have a friend living very close to the road. I could stay with her and she could massage and ride a horse, while I am there. Good luck!
