Using essential oils as disinfectants
Due to the unique properties found in essential oils, essential oils can be used as disinfectants. Using essential oils as disinfectants offers a completely natural alternative to harmful chemicals.
All essential oils have disinfectant properties, though some have higher degrees. Using the right essential oils as disinfectants not only has the advantage of cleaning the area in which it refers, room smell great too, not as a chemical bath.
When using essential oils as disinfectants, most citrus oils are rich in disinfecting properties, and lavender, tea tree and bergamot. To use any or a combination of these essential oils as disinfectants, simply add to warm water to clean the floor, or put in a damp cloth to clean surfaces.
To create a cleaning mixture that uses essential oils as disinfectants, try these recipes:
Deodorizing and Disinfecting Spray
6 drops grapefruit oil
6 drops Rosemary oil
4 drop of lemon oil
2 oz (60 ml) of distilled or purified
Combine ingredients in a glass bottle spritzer and spray as needed shaking before use. This combination can also be used in a burner or diffuser (without water in a diffuser).
Air Freshener
6 drops of oil orange
4 drops oil of cinnamon leaf
4 oz (120 ml) of distilled or purified
Combine ingredients in a glass spritzer bottle and spray as necessary, shaking before use.
When using essential oils as disinfectants, it is important that only therapeutic grade oils be used. Synthetic oils, although cheaper, have no disinfectant properties, and may in fact be harmful. It's true that can not be used as essential oils as disinfectants.
